What is IFSC Code?
The IFSC code is an 11-character alphanumeric code used to identify individual bank branches for electronic payment systems like NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS.
Format breakdown:
- First 4 letters: Bank identifier (e.g., SBIN)
- 5th character: Always ‘0’, reserved by RBI
- Last 6 digits: Branch code (e.g., 000123)
Example: SBIN0000123 refers to a specific State Bank of India branch.
What is MICR Code?
MICR code is a 9-digit numeric code printed on cheques to speed up processing through magnetic ink readers. It also helps in verifying the authenticity of the bank branch.

MICR helps automate cheque clearance and reduce errors in banking systems.
